Your Smile & Your Doctors
Why do I need to see an orthodontist for my appointments?
Without an orthodontist reviewing full orthodontic records like radiographs, digital models, and professional photographs, a proper treatment plan cannot be developed. Issues arising from using clear aligners such as proper adjustment of the movement of your teeth can only be solved by seeing a real doctor in person. Without in-person evaluations, at-home aligner companies cannot match these invaluable services.
Who is my Orthodontist?
All Smile Republic treatments are currently through LA/OC based othodontics practice Florman Orthodontics.
Where are the doctors located?
All of our doctor locations are available on our locations page. Please click Here to view those locations.
Is my orthodontist an experienced Invisalign® provider?
Many orthodontists and dentists can provide Invisalign®, but how do you know which doctors have the experience to produce the best results? At Smile Republic, you are treated only by Top Invisalign® providers, offering premium quality service at a fraction of the cost. Our doctors deliver excellent results to Invisalign® patients every day.
Who performs my diagnosis and treatment plan?
Both proper diagnosis and development of a treatment plan are critical to the health and safety of every Invisalign® patient. Smile Republic insures that patients are diagnosed by a real Top Invisalign® orthodontist with experience in creating custom treatment plans.
Will I see my orthodontist at every visit?
While your orthodontist will be overseeing your treatment as a whole, most appointments are simple checkups where you pick up your new set of trays. With that in mind about half of your appointments will be overseen by a registered dental assistant. The RDAs can answer any questions you may have during these appointments. If there is an emergency or your treatment plan needs adjusting you will see your regular orthodontist.
How can I get in contact with my orthodontist?
You can get in contact with your orthodontist by phone or email once you’ve signed up & had your initial consultation.
Are mail order aligners safe?
Aligners are active dental appliances that move teeth. If someone is moving your teeth without seeing you, examining you in person, checking your gums, checking your x-rays, and delivering aligners, they are practicing orthodontics below the standard of care. Some states have already decided that mail order aligner companies are illegal with more on the horizon. Smile Republic practices in accordance with the law so that you can feel safe knowing your smile is in good hands.
Do I still need to see my regular dentist?
Yes. Your Invisalign® treatment requires you continue to see your dentist for regular cleanings and checkups.
The Evaluation Process
Do I need an in-person clinical exam?
All patients undergoing orthodontic treatment require examination by a licensed orthodontist. During a clinical exam doctors are better able to diagnose and treat unknown complications. By not examining each patient in person, at- home aligner companies do not practice at an ethical standard of care. Treatment without the supervision of an orthodontist is both dangerous and illegal according to the many State Dental Boards across the country.
Do I need X-Rays?
Clinical standard orthodontic care requires radiographs be taken and reviewed by a doctor. Without these x-rays, it is impossible to accurately diagnose and create treatment plans for patients. At-home aligner companies not taking and reviewing these radiographs are providing care below clinical standards.
Do I need buttons or attachments placed on my teeth?
Attachments were invented to improve tooth movements using aligners. You may need them on certain teeth to provide the best tooth movement outcome. At-home aligner companies claim attachments are not necessary with their systems but ultimately this is because there is no orthodontist available to place the attachments. Invisalign® uses attachments because they work and are necessary to facilitate movement with all-plastic aligners.
Why do I need aligners for both my upper and lower teeth?
When moving the positions of teeth in either the upper or lower jaw, your bite changes. In order to ensure a correct bite, both upper and lower teeth need to be moved into their proper positions. Without aligning both upper and lower teeth, your teeth may not fit or function properly.
The Treatment Process
How does Invisalign® work?
Invisalign® uses advanced 3D technology to plan your complete treatment plan from your teeth’s initial positions to their final, aligned positions. Then a series of custom-fit, nearly invisible aligners are made for your teeth to move them little by little. Each aligner is worn for 1 to 2 weeks before being changed out for the next in the series, gradually perfecting your smile.
How do I get my aligners?
At-home aligner companies only allow for at-home delivery, keeping you from seeing a doctor face-to-face. This is a great opportunity to touch base with your orthodontist and ask any questions you may have while picking up your aligners.
How long does Invisalign® take?
Your treatment plan is customized to your teeth, but typically the system is designed to be used for 12 to 24 months.
How often do I have to wear my aligners?
Plan to wear your aligners during your entire treatment, or at least 22 hours per day.
Will my treatment hurt?
Invisalign® treatment will involve some degree of tooth soreness for the first few days after wearing a new set of aligners. This soreness is temporary and means your aligners are working as intended.
Should I wear my aligners while eating and drinking?
You can remove your aligners to eat and drink but be sure to keep them in an aligner case and to be conscious of not misplacing them.
What if I lose a set of aligners?
If you misplace a set of aligners, you can purchase a replacement for $99 per tray.
Can I skip ahead?
It is not recommended to skip sets of aligners as they are specifically designed to move your teeth at a predefined pace.
Do I need Overcrowding Reduction (IPR)?
If you have moderate to severe crowding in one or both jaws, IPR helps to allow the teeth to be straightened by slimming/slenderizing which leads to proper alignment. At-home aligner companies cannot offer IPR as this requires seeing a licensed orthodontist skilled at performing the procedure.
Do I have to wear a retainer after treatment?
Yes. In order to keep your teeth from moving back to their original positions, you must wear a retainer every night, indefinitely. Your treatment includes one set of retainers.
Am I allowed to change locations after starting treatment?
Once you choose your location, you may not change locations.
